Intelligent lights are used so we can utilise a wider variety of effects. StageSoc does not own any intelligent lights (unless you count the LED pars), instead we hire them from SUSU (or occasinally other places) for the duration of a show. Most riggable intelligent lights require DMX to allow them to be programable as well as power through powerCON cables.
These are moving heads with RGBW LED cells in them. This allows you to control the pan, tilt, zoom and RGBW dimmers as well as the master dimmer. They have a far greater reach than traditional lights and since they have LED lights, the colours are more vibrant compared to using gels. for more info on Mini-Bs, click here
These are bar lights with 12 individually pixel mappable lights. With quad batons each light has its own RGBW LED cells each with their own dimmer curve. Hex batons are simmilar to quad batons , but also have a dimmer curve for amber and ultraviolet. This leaves you using alot of channels being used for each fixture. However, they can be patched in a range of different ways to save channel space at the loss of the extent to which the batons can be pixel mapped.
The hire of intelligent lights are arranged between directors and TDs, who will contact the respective organisation (if it is SUSU, it will likey be done when the hazer and radio mics are asked for). As with other hires, intelligent lights are invoiced directly to the society whose show it is.
